On Nigeria's witch children

Last year, the UK's Channel 4 Dispatches programme brought us a report on child witches in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The report was titled 'Saving Africa's witch children'. Please click here to watch the whole 48 minutes of the report if you haven't seen it already. Its certainly worth watching.

On Monday 23 November 2009 Channel 4 will be showing a follow-up to that report from last year. The follow-up is titled 'Return to Africa's witch children' and I'm keenly looking forward to it.

I'll watch out for that too, I know Sam Ituama was in London recently and met with some interested people on the issue.

Hi Myne Whitman, I've just finished watching the show. On the whole, the idea is that the broadcast from last year and the efforts of the charity Stepping Stones Nigeria and Gary Foxcroft its director, have had the effect of bringing this issue to light. The results appear to be positive, although there still seems to be a long way to go. Its alarming that Helen Ukpabio has taken legal action against Sam Ituama and his CRARN...and in fact that her movies and book are still available for sale and distribution.

Its unfortunate too that it took a UK charity and a UK television channel to bring this heinous activity to the attention of the Akwa Ibom and Nigerian authorities.

By the way, welcome Myne, its great to have you on here. :)
