Beautiful pictures showing the wonderful heritage of Nigeria. I love the gate houses especially. Thanks.
Hi Tamaku, one of the things that fascinated me most about northern Nigeria was the traditional architecture. I've read somewhere that even the civilisation of the pharoahs of Egypt, borrowed some of their technology from sub Saharan Africa. The famous cities of Timbuktu and Jenne in particular, are a case in point. Traditional African architecture has often been neglected and not given its rightful place in our minds.
The multicoloured gate pic is that of the palace in Zaria, not Kano.
Hi Anonymous, yes youre correct. I did my research and found that this is in fact the gate to the Emir of Zaria's Palace. Thanks for the correction. :)
That's ok, and it is always Garba not Garuba in those parts. :)
Hi Anon, thanks again. Its nice to be corrected by someone whose knowledge is obviously superior to mine. May I just suggest that perhaps its Garuba for me because I'm from somewhere else? :)
;-)
I saw the response, thanks. :)Well, at least I was being honest when I asked and the request, (or should I say plea) still stands, so..
